There has been a lot of talk about The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, not only because it’s Peter Jackson’s first revisit to Middle Earth since the large success of the Lord of the Rings trilogy but because you can watch the film in 3D Higher Frame Rate screenings for a more immersive experience. When I first heard that Peter Jackson was going to be realising ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ in a high frame rate 3D version I was immediately interested to see how it could enhance the cinema experience. 48 frames per second is double the usual cinematic 24 frames per second and as recommended by the New Zealand-er himself it was the way he intended his film to be viewed. Is 48 frames the future? Or is it just the new in thing like 3D and a potential cash cow for Hollywood production companies.

Last night Movie Maniacs very own Simon Jago attended the annual npower pub quiz with his work colleges at Energy Live News. The event for journalists was hosted by hilariously funny Irish comedian Ed Byrne. The Energy Live News team went on to finish 2nd place and won £750 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

One of the most unnecessary film remake/reboots to ever be conceived, the Amazing Spider-Man restarts the web slinging franchise just ten years on from the original by Sam Raimi and only five years since his less than becoming third installment. The film for the rest of this review shall be known as the Atrocious Spider-Man as there is nothing remotely amazing about it, other than its ability to surprise you at every turn with even more mind-numbing stupidity Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man was rough around the edges but at least it entertained and some of its more cliche’ elements could be forgiven as it was one of the fore-running comic book movies to lead the way for ‘Hurricane Marvel’ to would swamp our cinema screens in disappointment for years to follow.
